Are the sessions confidential?

The content of sessions are confidential and information is kept securely and in line with the Data Protection Act. Sometimes referrers or insurance companies require brief reports about the work that is undertaken. As a registered psychologist, if I am concerned about your safety or that of someone else, I have a legal and ethical obligation to share the information with appropriate professionals, but wherever possible, I would discuss this with you first. What if i'm unsure about starting therapy?

We understand that it can be very anxiety provoking to consider starting therapy or perhaps you are just not sure if it would be right for you. The assessment session would allow us to meet, to begin to discuss the difficulties that you are experiencing and consider what you would hope to gain from coming to therapy. We could explore how therapy could be of benefit to you and consider if now is the right time. It would give you the chance to meet with a psychologists and to decide if "the fit" feels right for you, with no obligation to continue. You could also consider changing therapists if you feel this would aid your treatment.

Can I talk to you on the phone before we begin our sessions?

We provide a  free 20 minute consultation by phone to answer any questions that you might have before deciding whether you would like to meet.

How long does therapy last?

Each session lasts for 50 minutes. The number of sessions needed can vary a great deal. Depending on the difficulties you present with, it may be as little as 4-6 sessions to achieve the outcomes that you are hoping for. However, therapy could be longer term in order to process more complex difficulties. The number of sessions are tailored to the clients needs, and therapy goals collaboratively developed to make sure sessions are focused. Therapy is most successful when a client attends regularly and completes in-between session tasks.

Are concessions available?

We offer one means tested, reduced rate slot which you may have to wait for. We also offer a reduced rate for trainees/students. Please contact us today to find out more.

Do you work with children or adolescents?

Presently we work only with adults aged 18 years or over.

Question 7

What happens if I cancel a session?

Accepted Answer

There is no charge for cancellation if more than 48hrs notice given. If the cancellation is less than 48hrs before the session then you will be charged full rate. If you need to reschedule a session, all reasonable efforts will be made to do so.

Question 8

Can I pay for my appointment with private health insurance?

Accepted Answer

We have contracts with major insurers and will invoice them directly provided you have a valid membership and claim number at your initial appointment.
